Banking CIO Outlook: Selection Methodology
Program Objective
The “Top Banking Technology Leaders & Solution Providers” and related recognitions by Banking CIO Outlook aim to identify organizations across the banking ecosystem that demonstrate leadership in digital transformation, operational efficiency, and customer-centric innovation. The program focuses on financial institutions, technology leaders, and industry partners addressing evolving challenges in core banking, payments, lending, security, compliance, risk management, data platforms, and digital banking experiences, alongside advancements in cloud, AI, automation, and open banking integration. By highlighting organizations delivering scalable, secure, and future-ready banking solutions, we showcase the technology and institutional leaders shaping the next generation of banking and financial services.
The Selection Framework
Our research team, in collaboration with the Banking CIO Outlook Editorial Board, an external panel of industry peers, analysts and subscriber-driven nominations, employs a Banking Technology and Services Value Index to identify and recognize companies delivering exceptional value to the banking and financial sector. Subscriber input plays an important role in the process, highlighting companies that professionals across the industry would recommend to their peers, choose for their own organizations or regard as best-in-class within their domain.
Nominees are scored on a scale of 1–100 across the following four criteria:
Banking Relevance and Use-Case Fit (30%)
Assessment focuses on how closely a provider addresses the operating priorities of banks and financial institutions, from customer experience and risk oversight to lending, payments, compliance and core modernization.
Execution in Regulated Banking Environments (25%)
The editorial board examines a company’s ability to deliver reliably within highly regulated, risk-sensitive banking settings where implementation discipline, governance and operational continuity directly affect adoption and trust.
Business Impact for Financial Institutions (25%)
Scoring considers measurable outcomes such as efficiency gains, faster decision-making, stronger risk control, improved client service, revenue support or cost reduction across banking operations and service lines.
Market Confidence and Peer Endorsement (20%)
Strong candidates demonstrate sustained client trust through industry reputation, subscriber nominations, repeat engagements, referrals and evidence that banking leaders regard them as credible long-term partners.
